I applied for a fourth time! R155 000… And got the loan! Cool! Now things are finally going the way I felt they should have gone to begin with! I spoke to my legalperson today. I’m going to give the developer access to my deposit. R205 000 of it! The rest of the money, plus the interest, can be paid into my investment account. Now I shall have the cash available to do my own lights, extra cabinets and more expensive tiles. Maybe even an eSpring and a nice Persian rug! Cool!

Anyway, Dawid will draw up the paperwork tomorrow. And God willing I shall be in my place by my birthday! Unfortunately that’s still a long way off, but I reckon it’ll be worth the wait!

In the meantime, there is a moratorium on the purchasing of house stuff… I’ll buy more house stuff once the apartment is actually at ceiling height! At least then I’ll be able to judge the size of the place, so that I don’t have furniture that don’t fit! PLUS I’ll have a more accurate feel for light, etc.

Since yesterday, there are 6 more weeks left until the Road Accident Fund should pay up! To say that I’m counting sleeps would be a gross understatement! While I’m waiting, my dreams for my new apartment are all on paper. That’s good, though, because I have had to rethink some sums… (Don’t tell my baby brother I said so - I’ll deny it! - but sometimes he gives very good advice and from time to time I even follow it!)

So, instead of paying up my personal loan, I am going to pay up my credit card, and also reduce the limit on it to a mere R1000,00. The payments on that would be manageable and I’ll still have that as emergency money. (Credit cards are way too expensive to be used as crutches!) What I’ll do from then on is to pay whatever I would have paid into the credit card, into my personal loan, on top of the personal loan payment. That way, I can reduce the balance on the personal loan quickly and shorten my repayment period considerably! Frankly, I’d be in hog heaven if I can be free of short-term and retail debt by Christmas 2010.

I spoke to the developer this morning. He said that the walls of my apartment should be up by end March. After that, we can talk about such matters as tiles, paint, wall plugs, light fittings, bathroom fittings and kitchen layouts. What he said between the lines, methinks, is that I should stop stressing about details now and enjoy the break, because when the planning stops and the action starts, it’ll start with a bang!
